Project Highlights
• Conducted remedial investigation/design/implementation activities at a wood-treating CERCLA site in Bozeman, Montana. The site was contaminated with a plume of wood preservative (PCP) dissolved in a carrier oil.
• Additional studies of soil and groundwater were conducted to supplement the previous RI/FS to refine the existing understanding of site hydrogeology and contaminant characteristics. These data supported successful negotiations for approval of practical alternatives to the remedies selected in the Record of Decision (ROD). Approval of these alternative remedies saved our client between $5 and $6 million in cleanup costs.
• Data collected during the additional studies were validated to verify data usability. Data validation results were reviewed and accepted by USEPA.
• Well pumping tests and groundwater modeling were used to assist in evaluating aquifer characteristics, determining placement of recovery wells and an interceptor trench, and evaluating capture zones.
• Remedial activities at the site consisted of design and construction of groundwater and product pumping and treating systems, reinjection of nutrient enhanced groundwater to promote in situ biodegradation, soil flushing beneath buildings and structures, construction of a soil land treatment unit, and excavation of contaminated soils.
